Timm Sonnenschein is a German-born photographer living and working in Birmingham since 2000. Building on a graphic design background in his native country, in 2004 he graduated with a 1st class degree in photography from the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (UCE). After graduating he started his career as a freelance photojournalist. He is a member of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the photo agency Report Digital .

Timm sees his relationship to photography as organic whereby he inhabits the world of his subjects from an empathetic point of view. His is an ethical perspective whereby he uses his camera caringly to enquire about the people he photographs. Equally, his approach to business relationships is principled and committed.

He is a member of the Western Buddhist Order and was given the Buddhist name Alokavira (Sanskrit 'Hero of Light') when he was ordained.

Timm's practice lies somewhere between conventional documentary and a more crafted editorial approach directed towards worthy causes.
